We are opposed to the plans to reopen Campsfield House and Haslar Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs). The closure of these centres in 2019 and 2015 respectively was a victory for human rights. Find out how you can support efforts to keep these centres closed below.

This summer, 9th-13th July, Refugee Tales are inviting people to join their Festival of Walking following the Capital Ring of London alongside evening events of tales, music and dancing to mark their 10 year anniversary and share their vision of a future without detention. In the wake of the UK Parliament's passage of the Rwanda Safety Act 2024, Detention Action, a member group of AVID, has launched a vital petition.

This project, led by Waging Peace, shines a light on the unspoken atrocities faced by Sudanese communities and the plight of Sudanese migrants in the UK.

In commemorating our 30th anniversary, AVID proudly reflects on a transformative collaboration aimed at raising awareness of the realities faced by individuals affected by immigration detention in the UK. Partnering with the University of Liverpool and Cut to the Chase Production, we embarked on a journey that intertwined art, activism, and lived experiences, culminating in a poignant sharing session that resonated deeply with all involved.

In a new collaboration, AVID partnered with the University of Westminster as part of their internship programme for Social Science students. During the internship, students learnt about immigration detention and supported AVID to curate and host a Spring Showcase Exhibition on April 26th 2024 in Westminster University.

Thirty years ago AVID began with the aim of addressing the expansion of immigration detention across the UK. Over the course of this year, we will mark this journey in different ways. To begin, we reflect on what this milestone means to us.
