Training for visitors on the process for age determinations and why children end up in detention, what to look out for and practical tools for supporting their release from detention (including making local authority referrals). This training also covers the impacts on age-disputed children of the "One-in-One-out" policy. This training was delivered in November 2025 by Maddie Harris from Humans for Rights Network and Michela Carini from Bhatt Murphy Solicitors.
About the Trainers
Maddie Harris is the Director and Founder of Humans for Rights Network (HfRN). HfRN provides support, advocacy and litigation for people who arrive to the UK via unsafe routes. In response to the increase in children being wrongly age-determined as adults and placed in secure adult settings, they have been providing vital and targeted support for children impacted. Michela Carini is a Solicitor with Bhatt Murphy Solicitors, a public law firm specialising in immigration detention and unlawful detention claims, including the detention of unaccompanied children.
