What we do

AVID is the Association of Visitors to Immigration Detainees.

We are a national charity that supports volunteer visitors to people in immigration detention, wherever they are held. We have member groups that visit in every detention centre in the UK, and some prisons. Our role is to ensure that all those affected by detention can access a visitor to help them at this critical time.

In response to the hostile environment, we work to build communities that support, inform and challenge. Working with volunteer groups across the country, we support those affected by detention, we raise awareness of the injustices of detention, and we push for fundamental reform.
