Crisis of removals: free webinar series for AVID members

'Charter flights, access to legal advice and the risk of transfer to an EU country':

AVID presents an essential two part webinar series for anyone providing support to individuals in detention

Despite a global pandemic, detention and deportations are taking place at an increasing pace and scale, particularly charter flights. This inhumane strategy to rush through as many removals as possible under Dublin regulations - prior to the UK Brexit date - puts people at risk. The Home Secretary has pledged to remove 1,000 small boat arrivals before the end of the year. This has, without a doubt, increased the suffering of people in detention, and raises many questions about how AVID members respond.

Volunteer visitors have been increasingly supporting people in distress, who are seeking to challenge their removal. As a visitor, it is likely that you will meet someone in detention who is subject to removal or deportation. It is vital to learn more about current barriers to accessing good quality legal advice, the risk of transfer to an EU country and how can it be challenged.

To ensure volunteers are equipped to support people through these challenges, AVID is pleased to let our member groups know that we are partnering with our friends from Bail for Immigration DetaineesDuncan Lewis Solicitors and TACTIC Immigration and Asylum Training Consultancy to offer series of webinars focusing key themes on 'Charter flights, access to legal advice in detention and the risk of transfer to an EU country.'
