15th April 2024 marked one year since the outbreak of war in Sudan.
In this Lunch and Learn session, we invited members of the AVID network to join Waging Peace to discuss the impact on Sudanese communities in the UK. Please be mindful that this session includes details of traumatic events and experiences.
Waging Peace exists to support Sudanese people who are seeking sanctuary to build meaningful lives in the UK. They are a long-standing member of AVID and in this talk they provide an overview of their work. They discuss the current context in Sudan and history leading up to this point as well as the failures of the UK government's response for people seeking sanctuary in the UK. They share insights from their community on the most pressing challenges faced by Sudanese people in the UK. And, they share suggestions on how members of the AVID network can support individuals from Sudan in and outside of detention.
