Information provision and awareness raising

AVID produces regular information briefings about the use of detention in the UK, working to raise awareness of detention policy and its impact.

The Detention Monitor

Through our monthly detention digest The Detention Monitor, we provide regular information and updates to our members as well as others interested in news and developments in detention policy and practice. The Detention Monitor also includes news from member organisations, case law updates, parliamentary monitoring and much more. Over the years our newsletter has become relied upon as the only comprehensive monthly detention digest, reaching well over 700 people each month. Sign up to receive the newsletter here

Please note that our monthly Newsletter is currently 'on-hold' and it will resume soon.

"[The Detention Monitor] is a very useful resource for our visitors, and office staff find statistical updates particularly useful when giving talks and producing our own information materials. Without high quality and reliable information, it is very difficult to engage anyone with your arguments"

Statistical bulletins

Given the size and scale of detention in the UK, it is difficult to find accurate information in a digestable format, and to monitor changes. AVID produces regular briefings on the use of detention, based on the official Home Office statistics, and monitors the use and expansion over time. These can be accessed via our publications page

Information briefings

AVID produces reports, responds to consultations on key areas of concern and publishes briefings. These can be accessed at our publications page

Tailored information for our members

Our dedicated online members area and google group discussion forum offers visitors groups the opportunity to share information, ideas and best practice, and access a range of resources.
