Channel deaths: 150 organisations join call for compassionate system

Following the tragic deaths of 27 people - including children -  in the channel last week, AVID, alongside many others working on behalf of people affected by the UK's harsh immigration system, has made a call for action.

A statement on behalf of the sector, led by IMIX, has been published and co-signed by over 150 organisations including other AVID members.

The statement notes that it is time for 'serious action' when so many lives are at risk. It highlights that 'instead of trying to blame people seeking safety for its own failures, this Government must step up to its responsibilities and focus on saving lives'.

AVID is proud to stand with our colleagues in asking the Government to make a long term commitment to a more compassionate system.
