Buy ‘Bordered Lives’ artist’s book or ready-made exhibition and support AVID

We are extremely grateful to the University of Oxford’s Border Criminologies project for sharing the proceeds of their book ‘Bordered lives’ with us.

Drawing on material from the Immigration Detention Archive Professor Mary Bosworth, Professor of Global Art History Khadija von Zinnenburg Carroll and Christoph Balzar published Bordered Lives: Immigration Detention Archive earlier this year.

Bordered Lives gives a home to artworks produced by people in detention that would otherwise have been destroyed. While photography of detention remains highly restricted, these first-hand visual representations tell the human story of immigration detention in a powerful, original way.

Buy the beautiful artist’s edition for your coffee table, or hold your own exhibition of Bordered Lives prints and support AVID’s work to train and support volunteer visitors to people in detention across the UK as well as Migrant Artists Mutual Aid.

“This powerful and timely book [...] provides an insight into the inner world of a private run institution and its residents’ narratives of escape, fear, incarceration, and their yet unrealized visions of hope. This is a valuable resource for anyone interested in migration or detention, or creative responses to these experiences.” — Edmund Clark, artist and author of Negative Publicity and My Shadow’s Reflection
