AVID – The Association of Visitors to Immigration Detainees
VISITOR GROUPS
Visitors are friendly people who want to help men and women in detention. They usually come to see "their" detainee every week. Each removal centre has its own visitor group and those groups all belong to AVID. AVID is a charity which supports visitors all over the United Kingdom.
AVID, and the visitor groups, are independent, not part of the Home Office. They never pass on any information about a detainee without getting that detainee’s permission.
Visitors are not lawyers and usually cannot give legal advice themselves – but they can help a detainee find advice.
To get a visitor click below on the group for your centre and send an email. Give your name as it is spelt on your identity card, your nationality, and your room or dormitory number and someone will contact you.
